Mmm hmmm. We had a "situation" in the kitchen.
Of the waterlogged variety.
Padded in one morning last week in my stocking-ed feet to make coffee, feed the dog, the usual. Stepped onto the kitchen rug, and pulled up a soaking wet foot. Dropped to my knees, opened the cupboard, and was met with a giant puddle.
Had to toss the kitchen rug.
Which sent me scurrying into the sewing room (AFTER I made the coffee, of course) to my box of 2-1/2" strips. (Yes. I have a box full of 2-1/2" strips. Why wouldn't I? Better yet, why don't you? They should be stored right between the First Aid Kit and the Emergency Chocolate.)
Because, this was, in fact, a kitchen rug emergency.
Stitched up some strips. Sandwiched some batting between that and a random 1/2 yard of fabric from the stash, and voila, crisis controlled.
Loved it so much, I made one for The-Planet's-Cutest-White-Furball-Ever and his bowls, too.
ACK... sorry about your plumbing problems! But heck-a-cute new doggie "place setting". My dogs are envious. And NO WAY... we have those same bowls! I think I got mine at Cost Plus. A long time ago. Pre big doggies - as we have to use a big horse bowl for their water.

I was going through this exact problem last month. Yuck! I just moved here, so I'll have to get my sewing room set up before I can make a snazzy kitchen rug, but it's just been added to my list! Thanks!

Love the way you didn't loose your head in the crisis and made the coffee first because we all know coffee IS the life blood of all creation. I also like your answer to the problem, much more washable. I like the doggies placemat even better and will have to look into my box of 2 1/2 in scraps (yes, I too have one of those boxes :o) and see what I can find.
